University & Community Roundtable
Peace Futures UK in January 2026 hosted a University and Community Roundtable bringing together students, faith representatives, and community members to explore how shared human values can strengthen social cohesion in an increasingly polarised world.
The discussion focused on a central question: How can diverse societies transform differences into sources of strength rather than division?
Participants explored the role of dignity, justice, responsibility, and compassion as common principles across belief systems and cultures. Through open dialogue and respectful exchange, the roundtable highlighted the importance of preventive, people-centred approaches to peacebuilding.
The event reflected our vision:
“A peaceful world where conflicts are minimised and human dignity thrives.”
Key Insights from the Discussion
Participants identified several important themes:
- Diversity can strengthen societies when supported by trust, fairness, and open dialogue.
- Fear, inequality, and misinformation often drive polarisation and division.’
- Shared values across faith and secular traditions provide a powerful foundation for cooperation.
- Universities and community institutions can play a critical role in preventive peacebuilding.
The roundtable also reinforced the importance of early dialogue and community engagement in reducing tensions before they escalate into conflict.
